What do Bamberg and Hedeby, Danish Viking Age trading
settlement, have in common? Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Last year, Bamberg was able to celebrate the 25th anniversary
while Hedeby finally was announced as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
But what does that mean for both the location and the museum
of Hedeby? What problems and challenges will be faced? How is Hedeby able to
master them?
Answers to this questions will hopefully given by our
lecturer: We are very happy to introduce Dr. Volker Hilberg, who will hold this
year’s lecture of the SABA 2019.
Dr. Hilberg is responsible for the fieldwork at Hedeby, so
he fits perfectly in the practical way that Archaeology is taught here in
Bamberg.
We are looking forward for this interesting lecture as a
good entrance to a fascinating conference.

Letztes Jahr feierte Bamberg das 25-jährige Jubiläum,
während Haithabu sich über die Neuaufnahme freuen konnte. Aber was bedeutet die
Neuaufnahme für den Ort und das Museum? Welche Herausforderungen ergeben sich
daraus? Das ist das Thema des
Festvortrags für die SABA, der von Dr. Volker Hilberg, der die Feldforschung in
Haithabu leitet, gehalten wird. Auf diesen guten Einstieg in eine spannende
Tagung freuen wir uns schon sehr.
